Job Description

  • To work in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with the safety and operating instructions of the company, the client and the main contractor as appropriate.
  • To undertake plant loading, transportation and unloading duties as assigned by the Depot Manager.
  • Carry out safety check on vehicles and trailers on a daily basis in line with legislation .
  • Act as an ambassador for the company at all times, being courteous to clients and other road users.
  • To notify the Depot Manager of all incidents that impact on the status of your driving licence.
  • To attend all required safety briefings and ensure you understand the context.
  • To participate in compulsory drug and alcohol screening when required.
  • To report any defects in vehicles, plant and monitor safety performances.
  • To comply with the Incident Plan of the client or main contractor at all times, ensuring all incidents are reported.
  • To ensure you follow all control measures outlined in any risk assessment relating to the given task.
  • To report any accident, incident or near miss in which you are involved or you witness and to fully cooperate with any subsequent investigation.
  • To use the designated PPE at all times as directed and to maintain it in accordance with the instructions provided, reporting any loss or damage to your line manager.
  • To comply with all H&S policies and procedures within the scope of the Company’s Safety Management System
  • To undertake any other duties as directed by the Depot Manager for which you are sufficiently competent to undertake.


Essential Skills/Competencies

  • CPCS Loader Securer - Fully conversant with the safe loading, securing, transporting and unloading of required loads.
  • Demonstrable awareness and compliance with the appropriate safety procedures and attentive to risk at all times
  • HGV class 1 licence and Driver Qualification Card. Fully aware and compliant with drivers’ hours and working hours regulations

The mobile crane engineer will attend on-site calls as well as work in the workshop in order to inspect, service and repair a variety of heavy construction plant and crane equipment to a high standard.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Strong proven knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical equipment with a confident attitude towards identifying faults and solving them.
  • SNVQ or City and Guilds qualification in plant maintenance
  • Be able to work on your own initiative.
  • Previous experience as a workshop crane engineer or mobile crane engineer
  • Full UK driving license.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all work undertaken is in line with our health and safety procedures and that they are fully conversant with the risk assessments pertaining to all tasks and activities being undertaken.

The key responsibilities for the role are:

  1. Provide accurate information in respect of engine hours worked for each item of plant
  2. Undertake maintenance of hire fleet vehicles as directed
  3. Undertake routine testing of safety-critical systems and equipment as directed
  4. Undertake annual inspection of plant and equipment (without a lifting capability) to meet statutory requirements
  5. Complete and maintain comprehensive and accurate records, both electronically and hard copy, for each vehicle, item of plant and equipment for inspection, audit and compliance purposes. This will include the performance of all pre-hire checks, routine servicing, statutory inspection and breakdown repair
  6. Undertake the correct and regular maintenance and calibration of all equipment in accordance with instructions
  7. Maintain and inspect lifting accessories in line with current legislation

We are seeking candidates that have heavy plant experience, excellent mechanical engineering skills that are either time served or qualified. You will need to demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude, be polite, customer focused, responsible and methodical in your approach.

A clean driving licence is essential

  • Assist the qualified fitter to undertake maintenance of hire fleet vehicles
  • Assist the qualified fitter in undertaking routine testing of safety-critical systems and equipment
  • Assist the qualified fitter to undertake annual inspection of plant and equipment (without a lifting capability) to meet statutory requirements
  • Complete and maintain comprehensive and accurate records, both electronically and hard copy, for each vehicle, item of plant and equipment for inspection, audit and compliance purposes. This will include the performance of all pre-hire checks, routine servicing, statutory inspection and breakdown repair
  • Undertake the correct and regular maintenance and calibration of all equipment in accordance with instructions from the qualified fitter

We are seeking candidates that have a keen interest in heavy plant with some demonstrable experience, working towards a mechanical qualification. You will need to demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude, be polite, customer focused, responsible and work well under instruction.
